I always feel like April rings in the official season of Spring. In Glendora, we are witnessing the greening up of the previously fire scorched Foothills. The onslaught of rain brought about clean, blue skies and the crisp air brings about a season of fresh anticipation. And, Spring brings the Annual knot too shabby BAZAAR. Not only do we, at the shop work tirelessly for months to bring this event to the Glendora Village, but dozens of local artisans spend as much time, if not more creating their beautiful merchandise. And, can I tell you a secret? The week leading up to the BAZAAR, I get scared s-less (am I allowed to write that?) that nobody will come, nobody will buy and we haven’t done enough. I will have FAILED all of these vendors.

It’s a total and complete waste of energy. All that worry. Unable to sleep night before while it was raining (anyone else do the same?) as though my insomnia could somehow turn off the leaky pipes in the sky or change the circumstances. I worry that the community, who wants, loves and has come to expect this event will arrive and enjoy the sights and inspiration around them but not actually buy a darn thing.

But, I worried needlessly. The rain abated at 4:20 am (this I know because that is when I finally fell back asleep). Every. Single. Vendor showed up. You may be thinking, “well, that doesn’t seem strange.” But, I can tell this is the FIRST YEAR we haven’t had any vendor no-shows!!! And, people came in droves. After baseball games, before funerals, in between errands. Moms and daughters. Families and Grandparents. Pets and their owners. From S. Orange County and Pacific Palisades clear to San Diego. PEOPLE CAME from near and far and non-stop during the entire event…over 2,200 people in fact.  As a bonus, they spent their money!!! Our knot too shabby BAZAAR vendors collectively grossed over $10,000 (that was an hour before the event ended and doesn’t include any post-BAZAAR business they might receive).

It almost brings me to tears when I think about how supported this event has become; how much it is anticipated within our community and how hard our vendors work to prepare for it. We are a small team trying to do big things. And believe me, this is a big thing.  Thank-you for supporting it through your encouraging comments and feedback on social media, through the spending of your hard-earned dollars with our vendors and in simply attending. Here’s to success this year and more to come down the road.
