I don’t know about you, but I relish 3-day weekends. I don’t even “work” anymore, and I still find myself giddy over a “day off.” My big plans for this Labor Day Weekend included a stay at the gorgeous Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, lounging by the remarkable poolside waterfall, a hike up Madonna Mountain, wine tasting and shopping in the quaint and charming Avila Beach village and antiques shopping in Arroyo Grande. I love the Central Coast and am blessed to have family up there! So, I extended my stay by one-night and spent an evening with my Aunt and Uncle and got up early on Saturday morning for some back country yard saling.
Even on a weekend away, I love yard saling. And, believe it or not, this was the view from one of the garage sales I went to. Don’t blink driving down the road otherwise you’d miss it.

See the Emu in the background? Every yard sale we went to was like a mini adventure.
Sadly, the wagon wheel wasn’t for sale, but I definitely wanted to take that home. This house had an amazing aviary in their front yard with guinea pigs running around it.
Anyway, my back country yard saling adventure brought me a heap of new treasures and filled my car to it’s max!
And this doesn’t even include the piece of wood that I bought which had to get left behind until another trip up north.
I have big plans for that gigantic slab of eucalyptus. Wait until you see what I make out of it…just give me about three months.
I also got some new things to take to the store to sell and help stage my furniture.
I found a Parisian street scene painting at a fabulous store in Downtown San Luis Obispo. It’s pretty large so was on the pricier side of things, but I liked the colors for my fall furniture pieces.
This vintage birdcage and antique books were from an awesome store in downtown Arroyo Grande. Two of the books were published between 1910 and 1920 and the other book was published in 1849! How cool is that? I can’t even imagine how many fingers have turned the pages of those books.
Finally, I bought the vintage fan a few months ago right here in town, but when I got it home it didn’t work. No surprise. I sent it up north to my handy Uncle who took it apart, cleaned up the mechanisms, calibrated the blades and got the motor running! It works beautifully now and even hums. I’m not sure if I’m going to sell it or keep it.
This week is packed with projects. On the list includes repairing the sides of the antique vanity we’ve been working on, finishing some custom jobs, painting a dining room table and working on chairs, chairs and more chairs! Taste of the Village is one week away, and I’m prepping the store to accommodate seating for 12. And, at home I’m determined to slap a coat of paint on the walls in what was the nursery for its transition into a guest room.
