What does one write about on a blog when they haven’t written anything in…dare I say it…six weeks!

This morning, I woke up bright and early (before 7am), and rushed my kiddos out the door for the first days of school. It was liberating! 🙂 Please tell me, I’m not the only one that feels that way? The list of things to accomplish in my measly four hours of kid free work time is a mile long. But, first on the list was to update the website and crank out a new blog post.

There has been so much going on this summer that I couldn’t possibly write about all of it in one shot. So, I thought I’d share little snapshots of what we’ve been up to with more detailed posts soon to come.

First and foremost, my summer has been consumed with exercising. My husband (who is a teacher and had the summer off, too) and I started a new 12-week training program through bodybuilding.com that is waaaaay more intense than we first anticipated. It involves six days of weight lifting a week. I’m over it but am pressing forward because I can see the results.

Seriously, what am I thinking putting a picture like this on the web. Insane I tell ya!

We also ran our third 5k of the year in Santa Barbara and got our personal best times!

This summer, we didn’t have any big vacations planned so we went on small day trips with the kids at least one day per week.

One of the best day trips was a visit with Sally all the way from Arlington Virginia to see Monsters University at the El Capitan in Hollywood. My girls were captivated by the Hollywood weirdos!

We swam virtually every day and as a result, I can boast that my three year old is now water safe! What a relief that is.

I also got to spend a few nights on a couples retreat with my best friend and her husband in Ojai. We found a killer deal for a nice hotel on living social and Ojai was the perfect destination to do some back country picking! One of the neatest places we went was this unique outdoor book store.

I found some awesome books at this place and can’t wait to share some more pictures!

We painted oodles of furniture this summer…

…worked with almost a dozen girls interning in the shop…

…and hosted nearly 50 people in one of the many workshops that happened over the summer!

As you can see…busy!

I am sooooo looking forward to the school year…to the routine that comes from our daily schedule…to the fresh start that every school year brings…to structure in my life once again!

I wish all of you peace and joy as you send your kids onward…and for those that don’t have kids to send back to school…well…then you have more time to paint!  🙂

So, Happy Painting!
