I don’t know about you, but having Thanksgiving fall so late in the month really threw off my Christmas decorating at home. In fact, my girls are wondering why the Elf on the Shelf hasn’t been to the house yet and I’ve had to explain that there isn’t enough Christmas magic in the house without the decorations up.
Yesterday, I spent the afternoon pulling down Christmas containers and going through decorations. I’m discovering that my decorating style has changed so much over the years that I’m disinterested in using what I already have. It all seems much too commercial. So, I started making some new holiday decorations that will work with my regular home decor.
In a pinterest inspired project, here is one of the quickest and easiest projects I’ve worked on.
A wood star using paint, wax, hot glue and cheap yard sticks.
I started with five $.69 yard sticks from Home Depot and placed them in a wonky star pattern.
Then I hot glued them together at the ends and in the center. Because “Home Depot” is less than charming to read, I painted it with Chalk Paint®.
Yep…I painted it right on the floor. Then, I used straight dark wax to age it and make the ruler marks stand out.
The entire project took less time that it took my girls to get their jammies on and brush their teeth…which, unfortunately is saying more about how much they dilly-dally when it comes to getting ready for bed.
Since I had the dark wax out, I decided to add some dark wax to my yard sale find, cardboard reindeer’s.
girl everything you touch blossoms! I love the star and want to make one ASAP! I busted out Christmas and was overwhelmed, I did take 1/4 of my stash to the shop to sell. I have plenty to purge. Happy Holidays to you and your family Bobbi! xo
I love it all ~ Lisa
As a vintage enthusiast and crafter I LOVE some of these simple yet elegant ideas. The star is brilliant and Iove how you aged the deer. I just realized I don’t have any Holiday scenes in my “vintage” novel and you’ve given me some ideas to try in real life and in my fiction world! Happy Christmas!
Christmas is very near and what better time it could be to learn such decorations. Rustic and vintage Christmas decorations are pretty much impressed me and I’m looking forward to decorate my house with similar type of designs. Thanks.
