This gorgeous executive desk was given to me by an old high school friend! It was a great piece of furniture. Solid wood, dove tailed drawers that slide very easily.
Patti took it home with her to strip the top and paint the base. We decided on our usual dark walnut wood stain and opted for a shade of butter yellow for the base.
We kept the original hardware and added an antique glaze to the paint to add some texture and depth, and this is the end result.

Great colour combination! I’m slowly coming around to painting wooden furniture and doing the stained top with a painted bottom is what pushed me over the edge. Haven’t tried it yet but I’m getting there!
I’m very fond of walnut so that is easy. But what colour is the paint. You mention it as “buttercream” – what’s the brand and name? Also, you mention putting in glaze to “give it some depth” – what do you use and what proportions?

Cathy, I’m not sure what the exact color is. It was a left over can from the garage but has a real soft and warm yellow color. For this piece, I used the same dark walnut wood stain to glaze the piece. I just rub it on and then quickly rub it off. You can also get the same affect by using a dark wax. If you use stain to glaze your piece, be liberal with the application. It is much easier to rub off if you put a lot on rather than dry brushing it. It sounds strange, but works. Test out your technique on a blank piece of wood just to get the hang of the application and rubbing off. Let me know if you have any other questions! Michele
