In honor of Star Wars Day, May the 4th, I’ve launched my 2024 themed dresser. Featuring the loveable R2D2, this antique, solid wood dresser has undergone a complete makeover. The inside of the drawers have been cleaned and refreshed to their original wood finish. The top was stripped of layers of paint and sealed with Clear Wax revealing the rugged texture and grain of the original wood finish. The body of the dresser is painted in Annie Sloan Firle, a vibrant avocado green. I hand painted R2D2 using a variety of shades including Napoleonic Blue, Graphite, Old White and Paprika Red. R2D2 is set atop a textured, embossed finish that is reminiscent of tire tread or R2D2’s long jaunts through the deserts of Tatooine.
The entire piece is sealed with Annie Sloan Clear Wax to give it long term protection and durability and I used Black Wax to exaggerate the details of the tire tread and frame out the shape of the sides and wood drawers, giving it a subtle industrial vibe.
I only complete one Star Wars themed dresser a year, and it is a labor of love and will never be replicated as every element has been meticulously designed by myself and hand painted. I hope it goes to a fan, young or old. You can see additional photos and process reels on my Instagram page.
